Detailed maps and outdoor reference guide for Bay State
A comprehensive new 54-page mapping and recreation resource for the entire state of Massachusetts is now available from DeLorme, a company renowned for its digital and paper maps for more than 20 years. The beautiful and practical Massachusetts Atlas and Gazetteer features incredibly detailed, full-color, topographic maps, as well as in-depth listings of things to do and places to see in the Bay State. In addition to the beautiful, shaded-relief maps for all areas of the Commonwealth, the Atlas also provides six pages of maps for three urban areas. The cities of Boston, Worcester and Springfield are illustrated with full, street-level detail. An additional inset of Downtown Boston provides even more detail for city travelers.
Vacationers will love the attention to historic districts, museums and scenic drives, but you don't have to be a tourist to make good use of the Massachusetts Atlas and Gazetteer. Outdoor enthusiasts, campers and hunters can use this atlas as a regular reference tool. Natives of the Commonwealth can use the gazetteer section to plan day trips within their home state. With easy reference to Atlas pages, the Gazetteer section provides in-depth information about interesting places to visit and things to do throughout the Commonwealth, such as: state and national recreational areas; hiking and biking trails; paddling opportunities and golf courses; wildlife viewing areas; downhill and cross-country skiing areas; private campgrounds throughout the state; museums and attractions.
The maps are divided into three categories: an atlas map at a scale of 1:80,000 (1"= 1.3 miles); a city map at a scale of 1:32,000 (1"= 0.5 miles); and the Boston enlargement map at a scale of 1:16,000 (1"= 0.25 miles).
Each atlas map page covers an area approximately 12.9 miles wide by 17.3 miles high. These shaded-relief maps depict the terrain in a three-dimensional view with a contour interval of 80 feet. A grid system along the margins of the maps indicating latitude and longitude enables people to use the Atlas with Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers.

I made the terrible mistake of touring Idaho with an old (1994) edition of the DeLorme Idaho Atlas. Fortunately I had a whole sackful of BLM and Forest Service maps to get me out of tight situations caused by relying on DeLorme's information. The atlas shows roads that are not there, and does not show roads that are there. The land management boundaries are incorrect in many crucial instances, and sites are drastically misplaced.
I very much like the additional topographical information in the new edition, but I also noticed they did not correct any of the cartographic errors. So- fine for casual use or for general trip planning, but contact the BLM or Forest Service before you head out on the back roads. |

Wer einen guten Straßenatlas von Florida sucht, kommt am Rand McNally Road Atlas nicht vorbei.
Gute Detailkarten und gleichzeitig auch gute Übersichtskarten.
Nachteilig ist, dass er recht groß und schwer ist.
Ich hatte ihn zusätzlich zum Navi mit, da man so die Route besser planen kann und auch besser im Überblick behalten kann, wo man eigentlich ist / hin will.
Der Detaillierungsgrad in Ballungszentren (Orlando, Miami) ist sehr gut. |
